Lots of detail on the options open to an eBook writer for promoting your work. What it lacked was a comprehensive series of steps a writer can take, given on a timeline, broken up into actual actions you can take from week to week over the 3 months leading up to a launch. For example, she could say more about using book blogs to launch ebooks: i.e. a blog tour, cover catch, author & character interviews, giveaways, etc. and ways to garner reviews when book blogs have stopped accepting books for review. I sent out 82 emails to book blogs and got 2 maybe replies. So be warned, getting reviews ain't what it used to be. Covering such areas would be a natural approach to take on a 2nd book in Penn's series. Her book is a good intro.Tags : How To Market A Book [Joanna Penn] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. <div>** PLEASE NOTE: This is an old edition. How To Market A Book Joanna Penn 9781490590912 Books Reviews
I am kicking myself for not reviewing "How To Market A Book" sooner when my mind was fresh. The fact is, this book is a Wealth of information. I ended up following the links and watching loads of interviews Joanna Penn did with industry experts. This isn't just an eBook, it's like taking an in depth course on book marketing.
I appreciate the practical tips -- simple things like identifying who your audience is, checking keyword usage, including an email sign-up at the end of the book, setting up a home page on your website that highlights you and your books, and finding ways to stand out. (To name a few!)
Miss Penn is generous with the amount of resources she shares, not to mention book and blog recommendations. I have a whole list of books marked to read now! But first I'm going to re-read all the sections I highlighted in "How To Market A Book", which will take me a while since there was so much great advice to highlight. )
Practical tips every writer needs to read about!
Talk about comprehensive! This book is both helpful and challenging, and I mean that in the best way possible. Writers looking for guidance on how to market their books will find not only helpful and exciting marketing advice but also prompts to consider varying forms of marketing that may not seem natural or even comfortable to those who find their time best spent in front of a keyboard. Video marketing? Podcasting? Public speaking, for goodness' sake? Yes, indeed. Author Joanna Penn does not pull any punches in explaining that if you are writing to sell, then you are a business person and an entrepreneur and you must at least consider the multiple ways to engage your readers and other stakeholders. Her book not only provides detailed advice in a number of areas of book marketing but also suggests writers and bloggers to check out who are experts in particular areas of marketing, links to helpful videos and blog posts, and an overall friendly attitude despite the rigorous approach she offers in this invaluable book. Writers, if you have not yet checked out Joanna Penn's worthwhile read, now is the time!
This review will be short and sweet and to the point. As always thank you Ms. Penn for providing another valuable resource packed with all the nuts and bolts for marketing a book. Seriously guys this author knows what she is talking about. She has years of experience with blogging and writing non-fiction and fiction books. What you can expect from this book is a top to bottom all inclusive resource-filled book. There is everything in here about her from her personal experience, the tools she uses, recommendations to other authors, social media marketing, blogging, professional speaking, and metadata for your books. The price for this book is absolutely worth it! I would highly recommend This book for an all-inclusive lesson on how to market a book.
I am very pleased with this book. I like all of Joanna Penn's books about writing and publishing. This author obviously knows her stuff and she is very willing to pass it on to other struggling beginners as well as seasoned writers. How to market a book is the best book on this subject that I have read so far. It is comprehensive and written in a way that is easy to read.
The author begins by telling her story and the mistakes she made when starting out. This will hopefully help aspiring writers not to make the same mistakes. She discusses marketing myths and how you personally define success. The book is divided into five parts. Part I Marketing principles, Part II Book fundamentals, Part III Short-term marketing overview, Part IV the author platform, and Part V launching your book.
There are links throughout the ebook to other sites that expand on the subject. I went to Joanna's website "The Creative Pen" and found hours of information that I'm only beginning to devour. Her podcasts are very informative and she interviews experts on the different aspects of book marketing and publication.
This book is a must read for anyone who aspires to become a successful author. I highly recommend it. -- Valerie Lull, Author, Ten Healthy Teas
Even after having written a bestselling thriller, I still devour marketing books, looking for additional advice and tips for successfully navigating the tumultuous seas of the publishing world. As a marketing navigational guide for authors, Joanna Penn's "How to Market a Book" is far and away the most comprehensive and helpful I've yet encountered.
I've read many books on the subject, and almost all offer valuable advice. But hers is the most well-organized, comprehensive, and up-to-date. If Ms. Penn received a royalty check for each additional book sale that she's generated for all the authors her work has helped, she would be fabulously rich.
"How to Market a Book" is an invaluable guide, a marketing bible that every author should buy, study, and apply religiously. I plan to reread it soon myself, this time taking copious notes.
