Oak and Mistletoe The Rituals Trilogy Volume 1 JZN McCauley Books

This is a richly imaginative story that brings to life the tales of ancient Druids. I was originally drawn to this novel by it's cover, the story being set in Ireland, and the fact that my friend Britta loved it.

I found the characters rather engaging. It focuses on a trio of siblings and their introduction to the world of Celtic folklore. It is a story full of heartbreak, intrigue, love, and more. Readers can sympathize with the villain, making it hard to hate him. I love when authors are able to humanize villains because it makes the story that much more real.

Though I found the plot slow at some points, it didn't detract from the overall story. And it also made sense to be slow. With Catherine's introduction into the world of Druids, she needed to be eased into it.

I can't wait to read the next one!

Oak and Mistletoe The Rituals Trilogy Volume 1 JZN McCauley Books Reviews

I was given a copy of this book in turn for an honest review.

A promising story taking place in Ireland, Oak and Mistletoe spins a tale about a young woman named Catherine who is thrust into the middle of a centuries old war between ancient druids. When she accidentally breaks a curse intended to keep them buried forever, Catherine finds herself on the run from a crazed lunatic—bent on killing her—with the handsome and stoic healer, Bowen, and trying desperately to find a way to enact the curse again.

I enjoyed the book, although I really would have liked to see it more fleshed out. More about the druids and their order, perhaps more flashbacks to when they were cursed as some things aren't clear, and also even some more on Celtic lore. It would have been good to see more chemistry between Bowen and Catherine to make their relationship more believable, although I was happy to see them be together.

The writing style is easy to follow, with no grammar mistakes that I could find. This book is easily 3 stars in my opinion, only because I feel parts of it lacked some depth I personally desired.
In an attempt to put it simply, I absolutely loved it! This is the first book that I’ve read by the author, but I am 100% sure that it will not be the last, as it has given me such a good first impression that I can’t help but keep an eye out for future releases. “Oak & Mistletoe” is the perfect example of a top quality blend of both the fantasy and romance genres. As far as the fantasy element goes, the author has done an excellent job of constructing a world, plot, and characters that are all unique in their own right, each defined by originality from start to finish. In regard to the romance aspect, this is pulled off in a way that is just as good, translating to a relationship between Catherine and Bowen that has a dynamic chemistry that genuinely seems authentic and even realistic in many of the scenes. This is more of personal reason of what I admired about the book, but I can’t help but mention the mythology influence – especially when it comes to the druids, who have always been one of my favorite character archetypes to be found in fantasy reads. Overall, I’m more than impressed and I look forward to seeing what’s next!
J.Z.N.'s Oak and Mistletoe left me with a most intriguing combination of emotions. It's one of those books that leaves you satisfied but yearning to know what will happen next. The author weaves a complex tale that stands on its own as a mythical adventure staged in beautiful Ireland.

I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a match of culture and character building. Throughout the pages, each creation came to life in their own unique way. J.Z.N. possesses the ability to make them seem real. Their lives. Their choices.

It was a pleasure to add this book to my collection, and the gorgeous cover isn't bad either! I can't wait to find out what's in store next for Catherine and Bowen )
There was heartache on this book and at first it bothered me. As I read on though I felt some what of a connection with the main character. I do not have a twin sister, but I have a strong connection with my sister. I don't know what I would do if I ever lost her. Truly a great book and I'm excited to see there is another!
Romance, curses, druids, and adventure. The third person omniscient storytelling style gave it the feel of an older classic like Narnia, while the adventure and search for ancient relics reminded me of the Davinci Code. Such a cool combo! The setting was both modern and magical, with wonder around every corner. A lovely escape. And the cover is breathtaking!
