It was really hard trying to figure out what order to read the books in this series. I have read the first 4 out of order with this being the last one I read, but it still has not lessened my enjoyment of the story. I just convinced myself this was the way and they are just giving me background they didn't have time for before, yeah I am good at self delusion, it's why I read in the first place. This was maybe a little longer than I thought it had to be, it made things a little boring at times. But the overall feel was one that kept me interested and wanting to hear more from the characters.

Brandi is in her last year at the Academy and has a crush on the legendary Reno Smith,an operative for Lycan Link, and she gets a chance to meet him in person. Reno is teaching a class on self-defense in human form at the Academy as part of his duties and when his assistant fails to show up Brandi gets her chance to impress him. This encounter starts a on-off relationship that is bizarre in how it progresses.

While that is going on the Purists are pushing their agenda and causing a lot of harm across the country. Reno and his enforcers are in the middle and being targeted for their efforts to rid the shifter community of these bigots. The purists are going to cause trouble for everyone but especially for those not having the pure heritage they claim is important.

The story is two pronged here focusing on Reno and Brandi as well as the Purist movement. You also get introduced to characters that you are going to see in later books like Kane, Ryne and Damien who play key parts in other areas. This story has complications, devotion, loyalty, love, betrayal, and a cornucopia of emotions both good and bad. I cried for them and cheered and yelled at their stupidity. I loved it in other words, give me something that reaches into the mind and makes it a part of your reality and that is heaven for me. Definitely recommend!

Brandi has had a crush on Reno since he first came to the college to instruct in self defense. Finally they meet face to face when Brandi's friend volunteers Brandi to help Reno with the instruction for one class. Later they meet again and thus starts years of meeting, a couple of nights during those years of incredible sex, Brandi falling in love with Reno, Reno not admitting he loves her, fighting a society of purists, and lots of misunderstandings. Read this, you will love it and want to read more.
The Law of the Lycans series was recommended to me by a friend. Although I really like paranormal books, typically Vampires interest me more then werewolves do. I decided to try this series because of the recommendation. While reading the reviews on this series I saw that Bonded was suggested to read first. I am glad to have taken the advice of both.

Brandi and Reno are definitely not like the typical werewolves that I have read about previously. So if your like me and are considering Bonded for it, just leave the whole "vampires animal to call" thing at the door. These werewolves aren't like the stereotypes out there.

What is this book like then? Without giving away any spoilers, I would say that it's a mix of FBI/Special Ops Investigation and romance combined and done very well. After this one book I purchased the rest of the series. I would give this book my highest recommendation to those who like paranormal books but are looking for something different.
Nicky Charles continues to deliver interesting story lines with believable characters. I have been reading her work for years and this is my 5th time reading through this series.

This story starts a few years before Law of the Lycans and weaves in some nice back story information for those characters and well as introducing and developing the primary characters for this story line. The best paranormal writers take the premise of the world and beings they have created to weave a tale that could only happen within that setting. Some writers fall short and up with story lines that feel forced and protagonists that are approximations rather than well developed personalities whose behavior and choices reflect who they are or who they are evolving to be. Nicky has a seemingly endless imagination and continues to introduce distinct new characters and stories each time she adds to the Lycans world.
