Midnight Poison An Urban Fantasy Romance Thriller Paranormal Poisons Saga Book 1 eBook A E Kirk

This was definitely different from what I'm used to reading from the authors. Where there was dialogue and light-heartedness in their DNC series, this new saga or Paranormal Poisons takes on a much darker tone. Lead by Kiara Blackwood and her guardian, Leontes, we're taken into a world where murder seems to be the number one thing at the moment. People are being slaughtered, an infamous serial killer is back, and Kiara's in trouble. Again. The book opened up to one of the many slaughters going on right now. With Leontes investigating it with the other vampires, it doesn't take long before we're with Kiara, our protagonist and current target of the killer, Oleander. She hides from the trespasser in her room and later follows him. And there our story begins.

So I'm not a big fan of a lot of action scenes because I use the dialogue to build up the stories and world for me. While I'd find myself thinking 'Oh, another scene', the description itself was intense and entertaining enough to not put it down. Then again, I'm a total visual reader and don't like the sight of blood, so you can imagine the experience I had with this lol. The characters were interesting, and if I had to choose a favorite, it'd be Bane, only because he seems the most complex, if not just totally hot. A few of the characters gave me different impressions that changed my mood about as quickly as the full moon, but I'm taking that as a personal opinion.

I love how dark the humor is in this. I wasn't sure if they'd be able to bring the funnies that I fell hard for in DNC but if anything, they made it better since that's where I swing more towards. I died, especially when it came to some of the scenes that you wouldn't even think had humor in it. It's one of my favorite things about this book, if not the plot twists or Leontes. The story line was pretty fun because I like when the settings are changing and not just stuck in one place. It lagged a little for me when it came to what felt like a detour for me, and again, I wanted to strangle a certain character for doing what they did, but in the end, it worked out.

The ending totally killed me and I really need the next book. It's like the Waiting World but 24/7 with the minute breaks of some bumps and grinds. Kidding. Seriously though, the book is definitely hotter, with the feel good vibes that match the intensity of the gritty. So in short words: intense, darkly hilarious and surprising. Any book that makes me laugh out loud and cry for a character who's reached their bottom low is a book worth reading.

Midnight Poison An Urban Fantasy Romance Thriller Paranormal Poisons Saga Book 1 eBook A E Kirk Reviews

I enjoyed reading the Nex series so I thought i would give this one a try. It has the same sense of slapstick dark humour throughout the book and Kiara is an endearing character who is apparently crazy as a loon and a heartless killer - or is she? At times I was confused about her different personalities and wondered if she was just pretending or it was a spell or she really could not retrieve her memories. In hindsight this was explained at the end of the book, leaving us hanging and waiting for the next installment to see where this story goes.
A nice combination of supernaturals from Winter Fey, Werewolves, Vampires, Fairies and Unicorns - something for everyone to enjoy and read about. Jaeger was amusing as he just loved to stir up trouble all the time, taunting Leontes about his budding relationship with Kiara plus there were a few twists I did not see coming. It kind of felt like a really dark version of Alice in Wonderland with Leontes as the White Rabbit keeping Kiara in check and not going totally crazy, Jaeger as the sexy Mad Hatter and Mab as the infamous Queen of Hearts - sorry Winter Fae out for blood.
Overall I would have enjoyed it more had I known what was going on rather than being in the dark till the end but sometimes surprises are a good thing - time will tell.
Wow this book is highly entertaining! Yes it is a lot darker than DNC, but it was still fast paced so very amusing. I adored Kiara and her craziness and kickassery . She's impulsive and reckless, but she's also literally insane. Her hallucinations and her inability to always perceive them as such is an awesome element to the overall story.

Jaeger is also adorable. He's funny and flirty, but also smart and brave. He's fighting for and protecting Kiara with everything he has, and I love that about him. They've just met, so he's obviously not in love with her (yet?), but he cares about her so much already, and I definitely can't blame him.

Leontes intrigued me from the very beginning of the book. He is not perfect, and I wasn’t really sure if he was a good guy, but as the story unfolded I liked him more and more. It is clear how much he cares for Kiara, but to what extent I am not sure. I would love to know more about their past so that I could understand where their relationship is going.

And I obviously have to mention that ending. Holy cow. This book did an awesome job of keeping me on my toes. It's definitely not predictable, and the ending was no exception.
So basically, this book is dark and intense, but charming, and the added humor makes it so much better. It has romance (and it's freaking hot), as well as violence. It basically has a blend of everything, and I love it. Now I can’t wait for the next book.
